Signs of Low Testosterone in Men
Fatigue, low libido, mood changes, and lost strength can signal low testosterone, but symptoms must be confirmed with testing. Here is what to look for.

Low testosterone does not look the same in every man, and many of its signs are also caused by stress, sleep problems, and normal aging. Still, when several symptoms appear together and persist, testing is worthwhile.
Common symptoms
- Persistent fatigue or low energy despite adequate sleep
- Reduced sex drive or erectile concerns
- Loss of strength, exercise capacity, or muscle mass
- Mood changes, irritability, or brain fog
- Increased body fat, especially around the middle
Why symptoms alone are not enough
Fatigue and mood changes can come from thyroid problems, poor sleep, stress, or low vitamin D. Treating testosterone without confirming a real deficiency does not help and can cause harm. That is why physicians order morning, appropriately timed bloodwork before any treatment.
| What testing checks | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Total and free testosterone | Confirms whether levels are low |
| Complete blood count | Baseline before treatment; monitors red cells |
| Lipids and metabolic markers | May inform risk-of-treatment decisions |
| Thyroid and other panels | Rules out other causes of symptoms |
What happens next
If testing confirms low testosterone and symptoms fit, Dr. Ward at Zest 4 Wellness discusses therapy options, risks, and the monitoring schedule. If symptoms point elsewhere, he says so plainly and directs you to the right care.
Either way, the Columbia, Maryland clinic's approach is lab-first and physician-supervised.
